The Wheels are Turning

June 5th, 2010 · No Comments

It’s very interesting observing the movements that define the fields in which we live, exist, and thrive. We are capable
of many things great and small. From something so mundane as picking our nose to creating ideas and monuments that can withstand the test of time.

Moving forward requires sacrifice as many things do not happen on their own, without given effort. Ant endeavor requires a plan, drive, and commitment to securing the end result.
Business or Busy – Ness is much the same, and needs as much of our capable minds to create our lives. we can either be in the flow of the current, moving against the stream, or not doing anything at all.

I choose to be on my grizzly from dusk till dawn and back again. To build great ideas is not impossible, as there are many unsound ideas that abound through the usage of the correct channels. Find those channels, learn to maneuver, and the world will be as a playground for bring your dreams forth.

Skip up to the mountain,
and chop it down with the edge of our hands.

Some Thoughts on the Present State of Human Conditions

November 4th, 2009 · No Comments

We live in a time where in our own  personal victories, and battles, go along with dooms and gloom, it’s not hard to think we are seeing the last days if your of the half empty perspective. But on closer inspection it’s becomes painfully and hopefully obvious that no matter what the sun will rise and bring us a new day. A chance to set right the wrongs of yesterday, and create the vision of a blessed present, and glorious days to come.

The constant barrage of bad news, grief over financial status, and worldwide discontent is enough to make the planetary mood ring become a dark spot in the cosmos. Money, government, political and geological upheavals – all words that seem to echo the dark recesses of our hearts asking, “What is going on here, and why did it become so hard”. This post is for the everyone, from the rice farmer in Vietnam to those watching their portfolios on their iPhones. What are you planning to do to aid yourself, and fellow man in creating something fresh?

It’s been a long time since people all over have had a reason to question the inner workings of the financial system, those that represent them on a global scale, and why all our resources are not being put behind true development. Most of us are taught that struggle and being able to eek out a living is all that there is. Maybe you settle at some point, have children, and bring them into the same. We’ve moved from and agrarian society to a service and commerce based one. This isn’t new info but in the wake of Hearing of Liam Neeson’s wife death, Michael Jackson’s Passing, and other private or public items being blasted 24/7 – People living in Internet Cafe’s in Tokyo just to get by – civil unrest and governments not acknowledging people who do not care for democracy as the answer to their problems, you have to take pause and wonder.

We are all going global whether we like to or not. But that is just us attempting to replicate natural order. Death and taxes being inescapable is debatable. Especially in the face of the facts that Nature does not tax humans for it’s bounty, Humans do. But for every new need outside of our basic needs for air, food, water, shelter, and companionship – we are faced with new ways on how we are going to take care of these added self inflicted responsibilities.

I’ve spent almost a decade in defending a home and family which has now gone grossly into dismal disarray. The choice of wanting to be and honorable person in the face of personal gain, gaining success but hindering further growth in attempts to maintain cohesion takes it’s toll. But through all of this I have been made stronger. And grateful as I know my struggles pales before the experience of other people decimated by war, famine, disease, and governments  squandering precious natural resources.

I know we all have a right to be angry, and rage against those things we do not see fit for ourselves or others. I feel for people that I had come to care for in the past that succumb to the ignorance that clouds us, small gains at personal loss of self and character. Selfish requests for which you are willing to give into vs. recompensing people for their time put in. Just sad, almost makes me want to shed a tear for those lost individuals caught in the temporal glitz. But like I said almost.

Some are content in not knowing. The most frightening thing sometimes is knowledge. But the true test is using it to make yourself better. Not in a botoxy, poxed, and blighted vision of beauty or success but in truly finding the things you find worthwhile in doing. We’re very distracted nowadays;  always looking to fill the void with something else.

If this is the dream we call reality, let me know when it’s time to wake up. So build with each breath, learn with each look. Judge on what is and not the shifting of appearances, as it is all very pretty before the lights come back on. And remember it’s only as serious as we choose to make it.

Guidance and Protection on your way. Skips out.

What We Learned in ’08 or Closing my 20′s with style…

October 28th, 2009 · No Comments

So 2008 drews to a close, and 2009 is breathing down our necks with hot flashes in cold places – and cold covering those that haven’t been touched in a while. Many things have occurred this year, and many things have left me with a little more oversight into my own conditions personally and the positions of the many that I come across in my not-so random forays into human nature.

Some Thoughts on The “Gremlins” or What Do When All Else Fails

June 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Gremlins

Now some of us grew up thinking that the Gremlins were cute little Mogwai – bought from the “Little Pet Shop of Horrors” that didn’t like bright lights, not to be watered, and if all else for the love of God should not be fed past midnight. Cute story, but true to a certain degree. Royal Air Force officers and airmen of all degree can report these pesky creatures have been around long before the 80′s and probably before there were airmen.

But let’s flash to 2009 and the “gremlins” are still rocking strong. Words like “Widgets” now used to encapsulate small web applications capable of broadcasting many different forms of media came from “Gremlin” terminology. A “widget” was supposedly a male (female Gremlins are called “fifinellas” by the way – and I expect a kickback if this ever comes up on Jeopardy and you happen to win).

Anyone dealing with technological development or any form of technical service can tell you that Murphy’s Law and Occam’s Razor, will put your nerves to the test at very critical junctures. Or Basically when it should all be done, it can all go wrong without the aid of human error. These are the new Gremlins, sometimes maliciously coded or just acts of God. Now we can’t blame it all on these mysteriously invisible agents of fate, cause we do a good job of confusing and retarding development processes all by ourselves. However when these things happen, what are you to do?

For just this reason and just for my own amusement o pass the time while doing some intense hardware recovery, I came up with this list.

How To Deal with Gremlins or Please Don’t Drop the Hard Drive:

  • Check all of your connections. Whether it be a server, website, or a stick of memory – Gravity and Gremlins alike love the weakest link. Start there first.
  • Never underestimate or overestimate your chances of completion. Save frequently, and back things up. You have no idea if that hard drive is fresh or refurbished, or if that car has enough miles to fly by itself.
  • Some things need a the “Pimp hand of God”. Every once in a while a firm but gentle smack is necessary to restart the old ticker.  Just remember once it’s getting to that state, she sure isn’t as fresh as what she once was, so please proceed with caution.
  • Handle your tools, toys, and cohorts with care. Mishandling makes for bad bedfellows. Same goes for personal mistreatment, or disgruntled employees.
  • Keep your cool. If you fly off the handle – then the Gremlins have won, and are now planning to wreck havoc on other things, cause your an easy mark. While you may have the urge to throw whatever it is your working on out of the window, you will regret it later ( possibly followed by a round of tears and beers, but as we all know you shouldn’t be handling any heavy lifting when under the influence).
  • Never underestimate prayer. Sometimes in the most dire of times when calling the “All Powerful Tech Support” or IT person is just not working, you may need to appeal to higher forces in the Universe. Nothing wrong with that and you keep the Geek Squad at bay. These gods may be local or more universal but it seems to work, and only you know that it did at the end of the day. But if your server becomes self aware (Skynet), or starts to sing “Let my People Go”, you have a problem of cataclysmic proportion.
  • Back Track. Know how to go ten steps back if it becomes essential and will save you on time and headaches.
  • Ask questions. If you didn’t do it, then who did? If no one caused it, then what now? Can it be replaced, Do we have a back up, and How long will it take, are all valid inquiries for getting back into motion.
  • Take responsibility, and be accountable. This is a very hard concept sometimes, as money is put into people’s time and efforts. Shifting the blame is human nature, but sometimes it may just bring to light the unmet needs in your organization – or a lack thereof.
  • When all else fails, Take a break. Sometimes giving the system time to correct itself is all we can do, or see the above when it’s really crunch time and your ass or company can be on the line. If it’s all of the above, then just give yourself time to adjust to this situation, and what options are available.

Well I believe we given the Gremlins their due. And I’m hoping it all works out for you, but if you happen to see a shadow wiz behind you or catch a glimpse of a Leprechaun hanging out in Moblie, Alabama – Please don’t hesitate to call or reach out to the local mental health professionals or your local spiritual guide. If you feel so inclined, then call me just remember I charge accordingly, and am not below bribery if you know me well enough,  feel like speeding up the process, or you just  want to make a better impression.

Skippy dealing with his Gremlins, one bright light at a time.

All thing Considered or “Are We out of the Sand Box yet?”

March 13th, 2009 · No Comments

Back again after a long hiatus.

Learning, loving and revolting against the system.

So what have we learned.

Projects don’t go away or get resolved becuse your thinking on them ( I think this works in respect to prayer as well). Wishful thinking is just that, wishful. Things we set out to accomplish only get done with resolve, long days, or quick nights, and being willing to put things on hold until you have accomplished your tasks. Now some of you may read this and go ” But that’s common sense”. Yeah I know, but reinforcement without physical or mental damage is always welcome.

People don’t come back because we wish them too either. Sux but it’s true. Like a recurring dream of smiling faces, only to awake to the world looking strange, where those you once knew can’t even think your name.

Business will pick up, once we dust off our ideas of what we need to stay busy. I’ve been reading a lot, and all signs point to being aligned with your individual vision to get what you need. All thing require duality for manifestation. I have been working to get my head into truly using this concept for personal needs. Free associating, I would think things like Idea + Action = Result. But the larger the equation the more factors to be balanced accordingly – people, resources, time, and effort. There is something very universal in the quest for personal freedom, and non conformity for the sake of security.

Security doesn’t equal growth. To be secure is about defense, and maintainability. Organisms when growing don’t have the most secure shell, they are usually soft – maybe furry. Depends. But when you have gained a hard shell in the human world it’s really internal , isn’ it. You can’t define how well a persons armor is based on appearance. Although some of prefer armor to suits, but that’s what Brooks Brothers is for.

Just something to think about.

The Joy and Downfalls of Social Networking

September 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Let’s start with a show of hands. How many of you are on a social network?

“Skippy springs back at the amount of people showing an emotional response”.

Myspace purists face off against the Facebookers. Ning and Meebo have a karaoke sing-along, and those inclined to more adult pursuits decline to mention names, dates, or places for fear of public flogging – but maybe their into that sort of thing.

This is the landscape of the present, can’t say the future – cause we won’t have the attention span to care. As small startups make money on simple web applications, and corporate business sees this as another venture – those caught in the middle are left with:

  • trying to find your friends  – the “real ones” not the “she’s cute let’s add her” type
  • avoid alluring girls with the same photos offering intimate joys for a price
  • people you never wanted to talk to again and never hoped would find you
  • others just wasting your time with endless strings of chain mail
  • postings of various body parts and scanty swimwear
  • other people’s mates
  • advertisements for questionable body modifications, education, or general consensual solicitation

So where does that leave the unitiated, lost and flustered among those not-so random bots that plague mankind selling new joys and serving dark unrequited tastes. Who cares what you’ve been doing since High School, or that your not feeling so well. Apparently someone does, as we stream our collectie unciouscious to a pitch that makes me wonder if we are really using our upper or lower mental capacities to it’s true potential.

Some companies ban their employess for using social networks during business hours,  for some it’s what they use to generate income, and yet a smaller few have no clue that your already switching screens as the tell tale click of footsteps approach. With the staggering numbers of users it’s hard to believe no one you know is on there, and it’s always fun catching up. But it has become a tedious task of a whole generation relying on each other for emotional support at the drop pf a picture comment or status change. Crazy, just crazy.

Are there more hookups from these endeavors, is it propelling us towards over population. Hardly – if anything it makes easier yet successively harder, as you attempt to seperate your prey from the herd. I’m on like 5 different places, perusing content, extolling virtues, banishing bots and spammers all at once. My other friends are connected at the hip by their Crackberries. It flashes me back to high school, as two associates  pranked some dude – convinced that he was going to get his jollies off, in the days when computers were only connected by schools and the monitors had green as the only color.

Jay and silent Bob once went on a conquest to vanquish all those backwater forum geeks that called them funny names. How much we have evolved from the ever present forum, much like listings on a bathroom wall. Sometimes containg useful info, but usually just a technological version of a posting on the men’s room wall. And for those out there reading that have taken anything on a men’s room wall seriously or maybe even called a number – you need help, or at least pay a professional. Seriously.

Well with that I leave you all to your friends and family, floating dissasociated by time and space, as the Tower of Babbling Picture Comments, and porn clips grow. In the end we hope it’s all good fun, and doesn’t lead to a trip to questionably cheap doctors in a third world country.

Skip Along citizens there no more to view from here.

So then

September 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Writing from altered states of mind is very exhilirating. Liberating in the ideal that actions presently, can be brought to form that otherwise cause conflict. It allows for depth of time. Reflection and new motivation for getting the necessities done.

To get this far hasn’t been in the pursuit of ideals, it’ s through mishapps, pitfalls, and uprises over the duration of my interesting existence. The question now pondering is how to gain better resonance. To get to the place I need to be and should be to do what I need to do. Which at this point is pretty wide and diverse. A person can learn many things and I have all of the essential so it is merely a question of applying those powers to myself. Ifeel like the Hulk. As the only expirement worth living is pretty much just that.

Anyway, a fine skippy to you  – And to you a fine skippy.

Working Through it

August 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Life can throw us many a curve ball. Usually it’s aimed at whatever body part of choice it can shake the best. The issues isn’t to worry about the hit, but how you deal with your comeback. It’s gotta be snappy, proper , well timed and most of all precise.

Most of us allow ourselves to go along with waves, flows, and tide. Some of us surf it , some duck under, others turn to ride it in. How do you handle the crashing, how’d do you deal with the hit or those unexpected bumps not covered by Geico or the “helping hands” of Allstate.

To redefine each day with a purpose or lesson, we fight to have it all make sense. But a laugh is sometimes all we can muster to drive away the pain. LIfe sucks, and we move forward. But we get our battle scars,  we rock em with pride, and we go out again.
